Tome 2 brings together six painters who live and work in Paris. The works of art presented can be characterised by the apparent simplicity of their form, the clarity of their process and the quality of the relationships that they engage with the contemporary world. Through this conjunction these works question and renew the codes of abstraction. They play with a number of ideas: a syntax of painting, a deliberate relationship with the decorative and ornamental, a particular relationship with the gesture and a consideration of colour as a central element of the forms and processes of the painting.
Each of the artists works these ideas in relation to specific, unique and distinct conditions. It is precisely the objective of the Tome 2 series of exhibitions to show how these painters create tension with them.
Two conferences will be given in the presence of all of the artists from Tome 2. The first at CJ Art Studio, May 2nd, 2014, and the second at the University Hong Ik in Seoul (date to be confirmed).
