Launched in 2008 by artists, then joined by theoreticians, students and young graduates, PEINTURE2020MALEREI is a European research project that questions current and future trends in painting. It aims to illuminate the conditions and the dynamic in painting, and also anticipate its developments; reminding us that right from its beginnings painting has always been as much a driving force as a utopian movement turned towards society
The apparition of the peinture2020malerei catalogue is the opportunity to re-interrogate the functioning of the project as a model that allows us to raise the question of research in schools of fine arts, and to summarise the definition of the idea of “painting” in the context of the project and beyond.
PEINTURE2020MALEREI is the fruit of a collaboration become the art schools of Mayence (Kunsthoschule Mainz) and Toulouse (ISDAT) backed by the Forschungsförderung der Johannes Gutenberg–Universität Mainz, the Minister for Culture and Communication, the Institut Français and the Deutsch-Französisches Jugendwerk.
A trilingual catalogue has been announced from Salon Verlag, Cologne.
