This study day will be held in the context of the “Les toiles en prêt / Activations” exhibition that brings together two young artists, Corentin Canesson and Pierre Galopin, in the Galeries du Cloitre of the school.
These artists, who all studied at the Ecole européenne supérieure d’art of Brittany – Rennes site, pursue work in painting in which questions around the medium and it's contemporary situation have a primordial place.
It is this reflexive dimension of painting, its renewal and its issues, experienced and made explicit by artists, that forms the theme of this study day. Continuing to paint in effect signifies illuminating the reasons, that may be multiple, as to why we today take on a medium as heavy as painting. To paint means to accept its past, its exigences, a culture, a group of criteria difficult, if not impossible, to avoid, that in a double movement founds the practise and at the same time restricts it..
What declarations, or what plural renewals of declarations, of sources, of relationships and of claimed ruptures, come to nourish these experiences of painting? What influences and blending, what positions on art allow it, in a claimed diversity of conceptions, to continue to exist, to renew itself, to move and reposition the vision that we have of it?
This study day is in the context of the “Réseau Peinture” research group.
