“I can accept not painting what I had in mind at the start. Sometimes I take the fork in the road that presents itself, a “failure” or a too obvious form, because it surprises me and it works. I watch closely for wonder, I am on the lookout, I watch what happens. A painting that functions is a painting that we don't entirely understand. Thus my paintings that seek abstraction have evolved towards a work of “extraction”. A relaxed abstract painting, less dogmatic, coming from itself, accepting that visual memories may arise. The forms seem to represent something identifiable (a ghost, a plastic duck, a cowboy...) and are no longer censored and are even sometimes assumed, with humour.”
